Order Hard Drives

This article explains how you can purchase and ship hard drives through your CineSend account. The type of hard drive you are able to order will depend on the type of file format being added to the drive, i.e., DCP, ProRes, etc.

In this article:

Drive formatting

There are several ways in which a hard drive can be formatted.

Hard drives for DCP

Our technicians will format DCP hard drives to EXT-2, unless otherwise instructed. The reason for this is because DCP projectors run a Linux operating system, which is EXT-2 compatible. However, upon request, we can also format DCP drives to the below formats:

PC: NTFS, exFAT, FAT32

Mac: exFAT, FAT32

Linux: EXT-2, -3, -4

Drives for video/audio files and documents

Hard drives containing regular files such as video files, audio files, documents, etc., are formatted to be compatible with Macs and PCs, unless otherwise instructed.

How to place an order

To send content on a hard drive, select the triple-dot icon to the right of the screen and then select "Order", followed by "Send on a hard drive".

You will then be prompted to select the type of drive you want. If your content is a video file, or a DCP less than 32GB, you will be given the option to purchase a USB key or drive, with prices varying depending on the amount of USB storage capacity needed.

If you are ordering a drive for a DCP above 32GB, you will be given the option to either buy or rent a CRU drive. When ordering a rental drive, you will be asked to agree to the Rental Drive Terms.
